MOSCOW, Nov 20 (PRIME) -- Russian clients of online stores run a high risk of falling victims to malicious banking software ahead of the Black Friday sale, anti-virus programs maker Kaspersky Lab said on Tuesday in a statement.
“Cybercriminals can use the user data they obtain for direct access to their money, for example, via compromised banking cards, and for laundry schemes. For instance, perpetrators can purchase goods in Internet stores with the help of users’ login data and money, which are ‘read’ by a system as confirmed buyers who do not provoke any suspicion,” Yury Namestnikov, head of the research center at Kaspersky Lab, said.
In July–September, Russia stayed among the top 10 countries whose users face most frequent efforts to lose data and financial information when entering them on websites of popular online stores.
Buyers from European countries, like Italy, Germany, and France, as well as from North America are also in the zone of risk.
In January–October, banking malware closely watched the data entered on sites of online stores selling clothes, footwear, accessories, toys, and gifts.
Russia has been holding Black Friday sellouts since 2013.
